Book Review: Departures

Departures by Robin Jones Gunn Two rediscovered stories of Christy Miller and Sierra Jensen Click the cover to buy For my first ever book review for Blogging for Books, I chose Departures by Robin Jones Gunn.  The book is actually two short stories that go with her Christy Miller and Sierra Jensen series.  Since they are two separate stories, I'm going to write a mini review for each story. The first is "Now Boarding at Gate 10," starring Christy Miller. She's headed to Wisconsin on a family vacation, to celebrate her grandparents' fiftieth anniversary. What she doesn't expect is the possiblity of a romance with her junior high crush. While the story was as well-written as all the Christy Miller books, I felt like it wasn't really great.  Almost all of the characters have already been met by the readers in the Christy Miller series.  The plot is easy to follow and flows nicely, and the characters are all tru...

Beach Heart: A Poem

I recently had a reader point out that, while this is a blog about a teenage writer, I haven't actually posted any of my work. Granted, I wrote all the blog posts and that makes them all my writing, but still. I suppose some of you would like to read an official piece of my work. So here is a poem I wrote. Okay, so I won't have time to give the rundown on the entire past week vacation in one little blog post. So I'm going to go day-by-day. I'll probably be completely boring and way over-detailed, but I want to have this all written out for me to look back on later, and it's a lot easier to type on my blog than write in my journal. So bear with me. :P Well, we started our vacation with a five-and-a-half hour drive from Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, to Orlando, Florida.  (For new readers, we is me, my dad, my mom, and my three brothers: Eddie, Jon, and Nick.)  We watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and followed that with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian .  (Ben Barnes is amazing. I love Caspian!! <3)  We arrived a half-hour earlier than planned and, consequently, were able to check into our cabin early.  We stayed at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort, which was very nice. (Except for a few allergy issues. Sea...
