Style : Animation and Music   As the movie started, I noted that the background music was lovely and very fitting -- somewhat Narnia-esque. The island scenery was also beautiful, if a bit simplistic in its animation style. The living beings seemed rough and awkward in their movements, and the mouths didn't always match the characters' speech. However, most of the returning characters still looked just like the old characters I remembered: Jean-Bob the frog, Speed the turtle, King William, and Queen Uberta. I grew up watching the animated Swan Princess series based on the Swan Lake ballet. This included The Swan Princess , The Swan Princess and the Secret of the Castle , and The Swan Princess and the Mystery of the Enchanted Treasure . It's been more than a few years since my last viewing, so my recollection is fuzzy, but I remember thinking the turtle and frog sidekicks were hilarious. Basically, the first movie follows the basic plot of Swan Lake, while the others introduce and defeat new villains. In 2012, The Swan Princess Christmas was released, which was the first in the series to use CG animation. I haven't watched this one. Hello, my lovely readers! So, in a fateful twist of events, I am writing this post two weeks after its intended publication date from a conference room in an apartment building in Nebraska. How's that for unexpected? But let us proceed. We're almost done with the series! Just a note: this series, while marketed in and popular with the YA market, was originally intended for twenty-to-thirty-something married women with kids (according to Stephenie, the author). And even if the first three books are considered pretty acceptable and fitting for the majority of YA readers, this book is definitely a grown-up book. Marriage, kids, family drama -- the works.

Hi guys! So I fiiiiinally got this one up. At least it's still the right week, eh? I don't think I've ever had such conflicting feelings in one book before. This should be interesting.

Somewhat snarky opinions and completely unobjective reviews of the Twilight Saga: Part Two. [Note I forgot to mention in Part One: there will probably be slithering spoilers.] [Note from me: meant to post this yesterday, oops. Sorry.] Here we go! Because this doesn't really go with any one book/movie but New Moon starts with Bella's birthday, I feel like it fits here: Edward is technically 108 in Twilight , 109 in the rest of the series. But physically, he's seventeen. Meanwhile, Bella is seventeen in Twilight , eighteen in the others. I felt like the look of Edward/Rob in the movies seemed a little off. I did my googling: Kristen's barely older than her character, while Rob is twenty-one at the start of the series. Because I'm a book purist and want to make a point, I just want everyone to see the pair at actual seventeen years of age: Another photo of seventeen-year-old Rob: Okay, point made. Moving on!

Happy Fourth of July!  Today seemed like a great day to talk about freedom-related topics, yes? A couple of weeks ago, an organization called FEE was brought to my attention.   FEE , standing for The Foundation for Economic Education , was founded "to inspire, educate and connect future leaders with the economic, ethical and legal principles of a free society."  For more information about FEE and its history, stop by their website .  It's definitely worth your time. Ten simple steps to your next favorite family film! 1. Pick a fairy tale.  You may immediately think of those centered around princesses and/or love stories, but considering the Arabian Nights tale that Aladdin was based on, it's not actually necessary for a princess or love story to be the key point.  All you really need is either (a) a girl who is or can be made into a main character, or (b) such a boy who does not have a significant other in the story.  Some that I've found: The Princess and the Pea , Brother and Sister (love that one!), The Twelve Dancing Princesses , The Canary Prince , Maid Maleen (I've read an amazing adaptation of this one), The Silent Princess  (really cool one), The Thirteenth Son of the King of Erin , Thumbelina , The Young Gardener , Catherine and Her Destiny , The Six Swans (another favorite of mine).

Today a freelance writer who recently discovered my blog is sharing five going-to-college movies now considered classics.  Before this list, I'd only seen (or heard of!) Toy Story 3.   Guess I'll be watching some Netflix over Christmas break! Holiday break is quickly approaching. It’s time to start planning how you will spend your time off. One entertaining way to spend your evenings is by watching a few good movies at home with family and friends. The following five movies tell timeless stories about growing up and making big life changes; stories that everyone can relate to. Also known as “coming of age” films, all of these flicks are also American film classics.

This video and petition need a whole lot more American coverage than it's getting. The entire documentary's only 16 minutes, and it takes less than one minute to sign the petition.
