Contest News

Well, I have bad news and I have good news. The bad news is, only two people (only two?!) entered my review contest. Sad face. (Note to self: back to school is probably the number one worst time to host a contest.) The good news is, this means I'm extending the deadline! The contest will now be open until either we have a minimum of sixteen reviews (you know, title = book happy number... or something) or midnight September 30, whichever comes first. If we reach the sixteen-reviews mark, the winners will be chosen and awarded as originally planned. If we do not, the contest will be called off. (Oh noes! Please don't make me do that!) As a thank-you to the two lovely ladies who actually did enter, I'll be sending them a little surprise after the contest ends regardless of how this goes down. To see the original contest rules (all of which still apply, except the deadline) check out this post: http://emilyrachellewrites.blogspot.com/2014/08/its-contest.html ...

It's a Contest!

Who: Readers, Bloggers, and Book Reviewers What: Review Contest When: August 20-27 Where: Amazon, GoodReads, Barnes & Nobles, Smashwords, or your own blog Why: My book is officially six months old! On August 29, the paperback of Sixteen will have been out for exactly six months. Yay! Partly to celebrate and partly because it's been a while since we did anything prize-oriented and this qualifies as a decent excuse, I've decided to run a review contest! The Instructions 1. Get a copy of my book. Ebook , print , library, a friend, whatever. 2. Read my book. According to most of my readers, this can easily be done in a day or two. I believe them. It's astonishingly short, even for me. 3. Write a review of my book. See rules below. 4. Post review on one of the rules-approved websites. 5. Come back here and comment on this post with a link to your review by August 27. Ta-da! You're entered for one of two prize packs. ...

See the contest this is for here:  http://sjaisling.wordpress.com/2013/07/01/artwriting-contest-when-imaginary-worlds-collide/ Read my first entry (and the first part of this story) here:  http://emilyrachellewrites.blogspot.com/2013/07/my-imaginary-boyfriend-episode-one.html See even more of Rykel at his interview follow-up, where most of the questions are mine! Haha check it out:  http://sjaisling.wordpress.com/2013/07/27/ask-rykel/ It so happens that the first 150-ish words of this story (the portion that can be seen before the jump) are also my entry into this contest:  http://goteenwriters.blogspot.com/2013/07/new-writing-contest-ive-never-been-type.html  I've never been the type of girl to say yes to just any boy.  I have a list exactly thirty items long that every potential date must meet - not to mention highly conservative parents. You can see how holding hands with Jack Brant Rykel at a glam celebrity party is as great a shock to me a...

My Imaginary Boyfriend, Episode One: Trouble

Image
Hello, my lovely readers!  How is your Saturday morning?  I know today ought to be a new DIY Party Diva, but I've gotten bored with that series, and when you're bored then blogging is no fun and your readers can tell.  Instead, I've decided to use Saturdays like I do Tuesdays and Thursdays for now - writing about whatever strikes my fancy rather than starting a new series.  For today, I'd like to share a little something I wrote last week.  It's not your usual short story - in fact, there are no original characters of mine in it, but it's not a fanfiction, either!  (Not technically.)  It's an entry into my friend S.J's writing and art contest . ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I strap my helmet on and wrap my hands around his waist.  He grins back at me.  "Ready, ginger?" I laugh.  "Ready as I'll ever be!" He revs up the engine and pushes off.  Wind rushes past my face and I laugh, giddy with the speed and excitement of riding a motorc...

My First Fanfiction (Part Five and Epilogue)

Read Part One here , Part Two here, Part Three here, and Part Four here.  Also, don't forget to return on Thursday to find out who won the contest! The day after the ball, Danielle struggled to hide her fatigue. She managed to pass the Baroness's suspicion, and the next day Marguerite and the Baroness left to call on a courtier who they met at the ball. Jacqueline, Gustave, and Danielle took this opportunity to sit in the attic and discuss the excitement. "I was so worried! When Mother came to fetch me, and I went to warn you - I could not find you anywhere! Then I thought perhaps you had gone already, but Gustave came to me to ask if I had seen you. Wherever were you?" Danielle sighed. She didn't want to share her conversation with the prince, but she had nothing to hide. There was no reason not to tell. "I met the prince."

My First Fanfiction (Part Four)

Read Part One here , Part Two here , and Part Three here .  Don't forget about the contest!  First person to correctly guess both what this is a fanfiction of (easy part) and how this fanfiction ends (i.e, what sets this apart from simply a novelization of the movie) will receive an ecopy of Saving Mars , Cidney Swanson's new book, provided by Cidney herself.* The winner will be announced on August 23. Open to all readers, all ages, all countries. The luxury of a carriage ride made it seem a much shorter ride than it was. All too soon Danielle and Gustave were pulling up to the palace. Gustave jumped down from the driving seat to help Danielle out of the carriage. He spoke quickly and quietly to her as he did, not letting go of her hand even after she was safely on the ground. "Remember, Elly, you mustn't let the Baroness or Marguerite too close. If anyone asks about your invitation, you're a guest of Jacqueline's. I doubt it will come to that, tho...

My First Fanfiction (Part Three)

Read Part One here and Part Two here. The next day, Danielle took the hog to find truffles in the woods. She decided to take a swim in the lake, and returned home late as a result. When she did arrive, she found Margeurite and Jacqueline playing dice in the living room. "Somebody's in trouble," Marguerite sang softly. Danielle glanced quizzically at Jacqueline, but the Baroness chose that moment to burst into the room. She clasped onto Danielle's ear and thrust her into the nearest chair. "You stupid, stupid girl! How dare you do this to me! To Marquerit...

My First Fanfiction (Part Two)

Read Part One here. Dropping her skirts and the apples, she kept a few firmly in her arms and ran to the field where the man was headed. She called out to him as she threw, hitting her mark with every apple thrown. "Thief! This shall teach you to steal my father's horse!" The man fell off the horse and hid under his velvet robe as he hobbled past Danielle. "Please! My own has slipped his shoe, and I have no choice!" "And our choice is what? To let you?" She continued throwing apples at this strangely dressed criminal, picking up those that...

Teens Can Write, Too! Blog Chain: Tales Retold (and contest!)

Once again, my lovely readers, I'm joining the Teens Can Write, Too! blog chain.  The link: http://teenscanwritetoo.wordpress.com/2012/07/20/tcwt-august-2012-blog-chain/ This month's prompt: Write a retelling of your favorite fairytale, myth, or legend. I could never pick one favorite from those categories.  Anytime I try to do a retelling of a story, it ends up too long.  So I'm bending the prompt while sticking to the word-limit rule by using this post to start a fanfiction miniseries, a first for this blog, with hopes that John doesn't banish me from this blog chain forever. Can you guess what this is a fanfiction of?  It should be instantly recognizable to anyone at all familiar with it.  Since I haven't had a giveaway in far too long, let's make this into one, shall we?  First person to correctly guess both what this is a fanfiction of (easy part) and how this fanfiction ends (i.e, what sets this apart from simply a novelization of the mo...
