Shatter Me Dream Cast

Read my reviews of Shatter Me, Unravel Me, and Ignite Me.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi is the latest hot YA series, started as a trilogy with another three set and a television series to come. About the first book: "Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel with a paranormal twist that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel."

There's not a lot of details about the television series yet, although I think it's supposed to start this year (yay!). I didn't know about the show as I was reading the series, so I kept hoping and wondering about Shatter Me being the next big YA trilogy to hit the screens. So, like I always do when I finish a book that's just so made to be on screen, I put together my dream cast for a movie — or, you know, a television show!

Note: there will be some spoilers.

Adam Kent
Our heroine's savior and first friend, Adam is one of the three most important members of our cast. This was one of the hardest people to cast, but I think I found someone who fits the part. Presenting Harry Styles as Adam Kent.

I know, I know, he's already hugely famous, a preteen girl's dreamboat, and known for his singing, not his acting. I know he's not loving the acting career shift. But I saw Dunkirk; not a fan of the movie, but I was incredibly impressed with Styles' acting and how adult he is. I think he'll make a perfect Adam.

(Alternatively, if Styles turned down the part, Chris Pine is a close second.)

The torturous, tortured commander Warner is another of our trilogy of leads and a consumed contender for Juliette's heart. This is admittedly my most biased casting choice, as I've loved this actor for years. I desperately wanted to be friends with his character in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and oh how he made me cry in Fantastic Beasts. His range of emotions is breathtaking. He was born for the role of tortured and complex. I've never seen him blond, but I'm certain he'd pull it off. Ezra Miller will play our mysterious military man with a hidden heart.

Kenji Kashimoto
My personal favorite character, the cocky prankster and confident leader Kenji, was the easiest to cast. One look at Haruma Miura, and I'd found him. He might need a little buffing up before filming, but I'm certain he's perfect.

Castle is a calm, collected man with years of wisdom, a dream, and a heart. I went through several possibilities before landing on Peter Mensah. He has experience, range, and gravitas. He can be soft and inviting or serious and intimidating. And I'd love to see how he looks in a navy suit and a dreadlock ponytail.

James Kent
Adam's shockingly direct and endearingly honest little brother is hard to cast, because he's already such a vivid and unique person in my mind. But I think William Ainscough could be up for the job.

The elusive and intimidating Supreme Commander of North America is not a character to underestimate or take lightly. Controlling, cold, and calculated, this is a villain you do not want to meet, no matter how breathtakingly beautiful he is.

It was quite a challenge to find an actor intimidating enough to strike fear into the hearts of millions, old enough to fit the role of the Supreme Commander, and beautiful enough for Juliette to claim it's unfair. Plus, he kind of needed to resemble his son at least a little. After flipping through dozens of names and photos and IMDb pages, I came to the conclusion that (assuming our dream cast comes with a dream budget) the best fit would be the one and only Tom Cruise.

And of course, the most important character of all, our heroine...

Juliette Ferrars
A murderer. A suffering soul. A heroic leader. Juliette Ferrars is a girl with power beyond comprehension and a thousand reputations preceding her. Hers is a complex character requiring a confident and multifaceted actor. In my cast, that actor is Kaya Scodelario!

Known for Skins, The Maze Runner, and the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment, Scodelario is the only person I can imagine stepping into Juliette's shoes. She can play mysterious and tortured or confident and sarcastic. I can so easily see her raging against Warner, falling for Adam, bantering with Kenji. She has a beautiful voice but can speak volumes in silence. No one else could be as perfect for Juliette in my mind.

(While looking for images of Scodelario, I came across a lot of talk of her actually playing Juliette. But I can't find any official releases, and there's nothing on IMDb or on Tahereh Mafi's Twitter or website, so I'm guessing it's just a lot of rumors and speculation.)

What do you think? Have you read the Shatter Me series? What are your thoughts on the upcoming show? And who would you cast?
